Born Erin Marie Beggs in Oak Harbor, Washington, USA in 1990 to a white Marine father and Filipino immigrant mother, Erin grew up moving across the States every handful of years, and has also lived in North Carolina, Maryland, California, and Florida, currently residing in Virginia, USA with her family of three humans, two dogs, and two cats.
She earned her AA and BA in Sociology from Santa Fe College and the University of North Florida, and is currently a candidate for her Master’s in Science in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics from the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s School of Pharmacy, the nation’s first accredited cannabis program. She is a strong advocate for and is an active patient of medical cannabis.

In 2005 in her sophomore year of high school, Erin began dating her now-husband, Gage, long distance between Maryland and Florida.  The two had become close friends the year before, although when they met is disagreed upon by each.  Despite distance and reservations, two lovesick teenagers made it work and in 2008 Erin moved to Florida to attend college, about an hour and a half away from Gage (who soon later joined the Navy and was stationed about six hours away).  In 2010, five years into their relationship, the two finally reunited in Jacksonville, FL, and married in St. Augustine, FL, in 2013.

The couple welcomed their only child, “Cake,” into their family in 2014, then promptly packed up their newborn and lives and moved to Virginia, Gage’s next duty station, where they have more or less managed to stay put.

Unknown at the time, Erin’s pregnancy with Cake would be the spark that ignited the slew of drama which she can only refer to as “all the medical bullshit.” In 2018 at 28 years old, Erin was diagnosed with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndrome, Type 1 (a rare genetic disorder), followed by stage I thyroid cancer (currently – NED), and ultimately stage IV neuroendocrine cancer, which she writes about often in her blog.

On November 1st, 2018, Erin underwent the Whipple Procedure — a quick google will suggest it is “the grandaddy of all surgeries” — plus liver ablation. This is it’s own story for another time; and the reason this site has ultimately come to be.

Erin is a mistress of many trades: an apparel sewist, cross-stitcher, generally crafty artist, writer, storyteller, crow-brained collector of trinkets (which is absolutely it's own art), doodler, cook, gardener and houseplant enthusiast, and most recently picked up the ukulele, because why not?
